Your green waste dseposits are coming in and our first batch of compost has started cooking. Once the first heat peak has cooled, we will turn the pile into the next bay to set the process off again by re-introducing oxygen to the mix. The heat helps the material to decompose quickly, and we’re hoping to have our first compost available by the end of summer – provided we get a bit of rain!

Yew Tree Farm Nature Day
Sunday 1st June 9.30am-12.30pm
Yew Tree Farm (top of Brewery Lane, Thrupp) will be opening their gates for us again to explore the beautiful wildflower meadow (look for the Bee Orchids, pictured), garden ponds, orchard and to take part in Forest School activities. Also take a peek at the moths caught in the previous night’s traps – gorgeous creatures including Buff Tips and Hawk moths. A lovely free family event, with cakes and refreshments for sale to raise money for local charities. If driving, park at BATCOM or the Brewery and walk straight up the hill.

There’s been a lot of drilling, hammering and sawing in the background these past few Saturdays as the new shelter is constructed. This will create a space to keep us dry on site (once the rain arrives!) and the opportunity to harvest a bit more rainwater, a valuable resource for us as we have no mains supply. Enormous thanks to Matt and his crew of helpers for all their hard work
BATCOM runs purely on volunteer power – if you’d like to join in on any of the things we do or have any ideas for things we could be doing, we’d love to hear from you. Email us, or join our friendly Whatsapp group.
