Working Party off to a chilly start!

Brrrr! The site was frozen solid for the first working party day on 11th January, scuppering a few plans. A bit of litter-picking (read: wrestling twisted bits of rusting metal out of the frigid ground) for a while and then down to the serious business of hot tea and banter. Big love to all who braved it.

We will be on site most Saturdays now until we are ready to open and welcome anyone who is able to join us to get through the jobs – building fencing and a shelter, putting up signage, a bit of landscaping etc. The funds are in place, and it’s now just a case of many hands making light work. Please email us at hello@batcom.org.uk if you would like to join our merry crew.

When will we open?

I appreciate it’s that time of year for renewing the brown bins license, I’ve been asked this one a lot. We are aiming to open the scheme by March 21st, but this is dependant on two things – 1: enough community input on the working party days so that we can crack on and finish building the site, and 2: the GCC planning officer ticking off our planning conditions so we can become operational. We won’t be able to accept any green waste before this happens.

Watch this space….
